Named after a type of Italian cheese, La Fontina is located in a beautiful Renaissance-styled house with a cool al fresco terrace and a lovely fountain in Nueva Andalucia, Marbella. The restaurant offers dishes made with traditional flavours and served with plenty of creative flair, featuring an excellent range of ecological, artisanal cheeses from the Costa del Sol, as well as succulent meat sourced both internationally and from the north of Spain, and the famous red tuna from Almadraba.
The restaurant is run by chef Jack Smith Villanueva from Peru, who makes a fusion with alta cocina Mediterranean and peruvian cuisine. i-Marbella tried out the menu in this charming restaurant and the waiters are very attentive and helpful. We started with the Caramelized Foie Micuit with Passion Fruit and Apple Puree and La Fontina Salad as starters. What is Micuit? ‘Mi-cuit’ (meaning half cooked), refers to the foie gras being cooked whole, squashed together as a kind of terrine, rather than being boiled in a sealed container for two hours, as with preserved versions below. The Foie Micuit in La Fontina had a beautiful subtle flavour with a melt in your mouth texture and the salad was delightful in its simplicity.
For the mains we decided to try fish and meat, so we had the Sole Fillet au Gratin with Hollandaise Sauce and Conde de Iznar Blanco DO Rueda 100% Verdejo wine that altogether can be described as an assortment of fabulous flavors. The second main was Beef Sirloin with Mushrooms Sauce and it was really tender, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. And the red wine, Alcorta Crianza DO Rioja 100% Tempranillo, matched perfectly with the meat.
Para los platos principales que decidimos probar el pescado y la carne, así que tuvimos el filete de lenguado gratinado con salsa holandesa y Conde de Iznar Blanco DO Rueda 100% Verdejo que en conjunto puede ser descrito como un surtido de sabores fabulosos. El segundo principal era solomillo de ternera con salsa de setas y fue muy tierno, delicioso y perfectamente sazonada. Y el vino tinto, Alcorta Crianza DO Rioja Tempranillo 100%, corresponde perfectamente con la carne.
The sweetest part of the food review was the Creamy Tiramisu as the dessert. That silky delicate cream overflowing with flavor left us begging for another serving! Overall, the portions of the dishes were just right, not too small, not oversized. And the prices are reasonable and you really get a quality dinner in a charming setting.
La Fontina restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday and they have a special event coming on the 28th of June. There will be beautiful classical live music, played by the pianist Oksana Kraynichuk. And a special menu only €35.
