Food Review by Xusan Teo – Bar d´o Restaurant and lounge, the latest hotspot, a Belgium-French restaurant on the Golden Mile with an international touch.
Bar d´o, the new Belgium-French restaurant and lounge restaurant is founded by a group of partners from renowned beach clubs. They have decorated tastefully this spacious restaurant with delicate crystal chandeliers and enormous printed photographs of Hollywood icons, while the central bar is warmly lit with relaxing lounge along the sides. The main dining area is slightly elevated to enjoy the fine dining experience with a view. Besides the authentic Belgium-French cuisines, you also find some Oriental dishes on their extensive international menu.
After a long and busy day for everyone, Annika, Alia, John and I finally could relax comfortably at our table enjoying a nice aperitif while studying the interesting menu. Annika had a very beautifully presented pan fried Foie Gras with raspberry and mango coulis that melted in your mouth. John and I went for the Oriental starters; the Sesame-encrusted Tuna Tataki with a smooth and fluffy Wasabi Mayonnaise and a light and crisp Prawn Tempura with yellow curry dressing. Alia was most satisfied with her Fresh Gillardeau Oysters.
As everything is homemade, so were the sauces that accompanied the main dishes. I had the traditional Steak Tartar with some Belgium fries, but the pan seared Turbot in a cress sauce with spring onion mash was the highlight of the main courses that we had. The generous piece of fish was cooked moist while the skin nice and crispy, just excellent.
While chatting with one of the owners at the table, we enjoyed the homemade smooth and tasty desserts. John´s Tiramisu was light and fluffy but Alia´s Bannoffee pie was just out of this world!
