Interview with Peet Rothwell, Singer, Personal Trainer, and Fitness Competitor
14-04-2015Peet Rothwell, 31, is a professional singer, a personal trainer, and a men's fitness physique competitor from North Wales. He has been living in Marbella for 8 years now.
Why the transformation with your body?
The fitness started as a way to calm down and cut out some of the partying in a way. I used to drink smoke and eat so much junk. And was really out of shape all of a sudden. So signed up to a gym and cut drinking for a month!
That kind of esculated and one day I just thought I needed a new challenge so dared myself to stop drinking for a year and build the body I always wanted.
Could you show us and comment on your progress?
The process really started with weight gain, naturally my body wants to be really thin but with the lifestyle i was living I gained a lot of Abdominal fat so I was what we call skinny fat! I knew I wanted to gain weight so I went about researching how to gain weight but not get fat, that was step 1.
The next thing was to educate myself on training techniques and Nutrition! Its a fascinating journey learning about your body and how it works, its that science side that got me hooked as much as the training.
When I started to see results one of my friends that is a Natural Bodybuilding competitor suggested I should compete, this was around about the time i was feeling I needed a bigger challenge. Here I am 5 weeks out from competing Mens Physique at the Bodypower USN Classic in Birmingham.
Are you now happy with your body?
I am happy to a certain extent, but never satisfied. When I look at pictures and remember how I was I will sometimes give myself a pat on the back. But my journey has only just begun so I am always pushing and looking to improve, wether mentally or physically or expanding my knowlege of the industry. There is no better motivation than having a competition date as a target but at least having a serious long term goal set out is essential.
How has your new body changed your life? What is now different?
I don't think I have changed as a person and aside from now Personal Training I still have the same job as a singer! But I have to sacrifice a lot more these days, things like going out to eat are a lot more complex and hitting a night on the town is out of the question at the moment! But I'm happier than ever and excited for the future!
What is your main goal?
My main long term goal right now is to compete at a decent standard and make a name for myself in the industry and perhaps gain some sponsorship. I'm not as young as most of the other competitors but like everything else I don't let that mentally hold me back! I also have big plans with Business in Fitness. I really have one eye on the future with this starting with a Fitness and Wellness website called "RothWellness Marbella" launching this year!! But right now I can't see past May 17th!
Last but not least, what will you do once you have achieved your goal?
If I achieved everything I dream of in the industry, I would almost certainly own my own gym and fitness centre! Apart from that who knows, sky is the limit!
