10 Minutes With Michael Bolton's Guitarist Ryan Parrino

Ryan Parrino was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, USA and is currently on tour as guitarist for Michael Bolton. He is also a freelance guitarist, composer, producer and instructor. He is based out of the New York City metro area, but has been around the world. i-Marbella brings you the exclusive interview with Ryan Parrino.

1. Where were you educated?

I graduated from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida with a bachelor degree in Studio Music and Jazz.

2. What does it take to become a professional guitar player like you?

Overall, I think it takes talent, hard work, versatility, knowing the right people and a little luck.

3. You are currently on tour with Michael Bolton. How long is the tour?

Well this current run is about 2 weeks. Usually we will go out from anywhere from 2-6 weeks, go home for a bit then repeat.

4. What is the best and worst thing about being on tour?

The best thing is that I get to do what I love and see the world while I’m doing it. The worst thing is definitely the long airport lines, flights, layovers, drives, etc. That’s what they pay me for; I play the guitar for free.

5. How do you spend your time if you're not touring?

I do gigs at home with different artists and bands. I also write and record music for television as well as traditional recording sessions.

6. What do you think about Marbella? How was the audience?

I absolutely loved Marbella, and Spain in general. The audience was incredible. I can’t wait to come back.

7. Tell us something people usually don't know about Michael Bolton.

He is very funny and witty…Great sense of humor.

8. How do you spend your free time?

Other than working just trying to relax with friends and family. Nothing too crazy.

9. What are your dreams and goals?

Well, I’m lucky enough to be doing what I’ve always dreamt of, touring the world and playing the guitar. My next goal would be to compose more music for television and film and do more studio work overall.
