i-Marbella Dance Marathon Booiaka Instructor - Gabriela Cantos
25-09-2014Dancer, model, acrobat Gabriela Cantos (30) is originally from Ecuador, but grew up and studied in the Netherlands and now she is dancing and teaching Booiaka in Marbella. She will be teaching in our i-Marbella Dance Marathon 30 September 17:00 in Puente Romano Tennis Club. i-Marbella found out more about the beautiful dancer!
1. How did you start dancing?
I was a gymnast when I was little and after moving from Ecuador to the Netherlands it wasn't the same feeling, so I stopped around the age of 15 and with 16 I started dancing.
2. Where did you study?
I studied in the university of sports called CIOS Sittard where we got all the basics of all sports and later in the third year I could choose my own way so I chose Dance coordinator.
3. How did you start teaching dancing? And where have you taught/or are teaching now?
I started teaching through my school because it was part of my education and experience. I have taught and worked in different kind of sports sector with all kind of age group's. I have taught in The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy. Those are the places that I can remember.
4. How did you find Booiaka? Or did it find you?
Booiaka found me in Princess Studios where I was working for over 2 years. The owner found this amazing dance workout on youtube and she just wanted to have it in her studio. So we did the Booiaka course.
5. Why is Booiaka different from Zumba and other styles?
I also did the zumba training before the Booiaka one in Almeria. The difference is that not everybody can teach Booiaka. You have to prove yourself that you can teach the Booiaka method. Booiaka is also fun and with out noticing you are burning a lot of calories and you are dancing a choreography.
6. What does dancing mean to you?
Dancing is my life and my passion. Without dancing, I am not me and I am not happy. I stopped once just to see what I wanted in life and dancing is one thing that has to be there. It makes me feel alive and happy.
7. Why should people come to the dance marathon? Or if they're a bit intimidated what would you tell them?
Because it's a event to have fun. Also to enjoy the company of different cultures coming together because they like to dance. It's gonna be a great evening.
Intimidated, why?? I would say ladies don't be afraid or a shame to move. We are all sexy but instead of keeping it inside bring it out and let's have fun because that's why we came here to do :-D
8. What are your plans for the fall and winter?
My plans for now is if everything goes well to Miami :-) excited..
I have been there before and I fell in love with the place. Now I just wanna experience the live for 3 month's over there and see how it goes. After working here in the summer season with the wonderful dancer group Aerial illusions is time for something different in the winter time :-)
