European Golf Tour - Andalusian Open to begin tomorrow in Aloha Marbella!
14-03-2012Aloha Golf, Marbella, will host the "Open de Andalucía" for the third time, between March 15th to 18th.
Participation of major players like Scot Paul Lawrie, the defending champion, and Malacitan Miguel Ángel Jimenez, who will also serve as organizer and host of the tournament.
Tournament sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, the Tourist Board of the Costa del Sol, Malaga Provincial Council, the City of Benahavis, and the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol.
The field of Aloha Golf is firm, balanced and very entertaining. Narrowed streets, which requires precision and skill on approach shots, especially on the 18th hole, and a demanding uphill par 4. In previous editions of the Open de Andalucia, the recognition they received from the players was unanimous:
Lee Westwood, winner of the Open de Andalucia 2007: "Aloha is a traditional country course, where instead of using the drive and give it as a cannon, it is more convenient to use the head and other clubs in the bag. Players appreciate a field that makes us think. The par 3's are hard but very good". The English broke the course record during the second round of the tournament, setting it to 64 strokes.
Thomas Levet, who won in 2008: "The field of Aloha was predestined for me, I played for the first time in 1983 with my club and we came third. I returned in 1986 to the International Amateur in Spain Tournament. It is a field that I have always loved and when I won the Open de Andalucía, seemed like it was made especially for me".
Miguel Ángel Jimenez, head of the organization of the Open de Andalucía: "Aloha is always in great condition. The field is not long, but it is very technical. I have a special affection and keep a very close relationship with Aloha, a club with great people, where in 1989 I won the Benson & Hedges mixed with Xonia Wunsch, and the Andalusian Championships Individual and couples. My good friend Andres Jimenez (now Sporting Director, who has replaced Jose Luis sleeves) and I started to play together in the mid-80's, and his father, who devoted his life to the club, was like a 2nd father to me".
Luis Navarro, Managing Director of Aloha Golf: "We are delighted and very proud that a big tournament like the Open de Andalucía is played again in our field".
