Maria Bravo: All Raised Funds 100% Donated to Charity04-07-2016
The founder of the Global Gift platform, Maria Bravo, presents the details of the V Edition of the Global Gift Philanthropic Weekend in Marbella.
Following the success in Madrid, Paris, and Cannes, Maria Bravo returns home to celebrate the Global Gift Philanthropic Weekend for the 5th consecutive year in a city of five stars.
You mentioned that the most difficult part when it comes to charity is to prove that the funds are indeed directed charity.
Absolutely, in Spain in particular. I haven't had any problems in the USA or in other countries. Spain has seen many frauds related to charity. Stealing money when there are so many people in need is the lowest one can go. If you ask people to donate 1 Euro, they will immediately ask you how much of the money actually goes to charity. We have found a formula that allows us to direct 100% funds to charitable orgnisations and activities.
Running an organisation is costly. How do they get paid?
Global Gift employs 11 people in Marbella and 5-6 people in other countries.
I know many celebrities, and my best friend is Eva Logoria. I used to raise funds for movie projects and TV shows in Hollywood. As I come from a poor family, philantropy has become my main hobby.
I also run another successful company that deals with celebrity booking, marketing campaigns, and other areas. The money I earn allows me to pay my employees.
We use barters to support our activities. I literally knock on doors and say that this or that celebrity is coming here if we get free accommodation and catering.
How difficult is charitable work?
It is important to make it clear to the sponsor what they will get and what we want to get in return. Five years ago, we had different charities in different cities under different names, but today, they have all been united and are known as The Global Gift Foundation. A barter means a profitable exchange. Otherwise, for example, to bring Eva Longoria to some place would be much more expensive.
What is really difficult is to make people and sponsors to do something for free; however, once they have realised the potential, they are eager to cooperate again and again. We have sponsors who are happy to join us every year; organising the galas has become much easier now.
I am also very delighted that we managed to establish Global Gift in Marbella as this is my home. My sister and family live here.
How do you make sure that the funds reach their destination?
I always stay on top of everything. I micro manage the company, asking for evidence and bills as this is crucial for the image of Eva Longoria, Ricki Martin, and Global Gift.
What was the most emotional charity project last year?
I think that the project aimed at helping Bertin Osborne and Isabel Pantoa, which attracted a lot of media attention.
I introduced the two children to each other, feeling extremely guilty at first. What I am going to do now and how am I going to help them? We were able to attract unbelievable media attention to help solve the problem and make the public aware of the situation.
In Fungeriola, a special programme is offered to help deal with such specific cases. Sclerosis requires a lot of attention, and one of my friends was able to relieve the disease using a cure that we delivered.
I welcome celebrities who wish to do something from the bottoms of their hearts as we care about our image very much and sincerely want to do good.
What is Mother2Mother Project?
It's an African project. We personally control the project activities.
To sum it up, there are very many possibilities to encourage and support charitable work. It's not only about rasing funds, but also about actually helping the ones in need.
