Marbella Fashion Police: Emma Watkinson09-05-2012
Marbella Fashion Police has made another arrest - this week it's Emma Watkinson (25), who is a former womenswear buyer, now CEO of SilkFred.com , which is the online destination for emerging designers.
1. How do you define your style?
I would define my style as a mix between classic and contemporary. I love the clean, simple aesthetic of Scandinavian brands like Acne and Cos. It's all about laid back luxury during the day - a basic t-shirt from Amy Segal, some great skinny jeans and a tailored blazer. At the weekend I might dress up a little with a feminine look by Kelly Love or go for high octane glamour with a piece from Philipp Plein.
2. What is your ideal look for daytime? And night time?
It's all about laid back luxury during the day - a basic t-shirt from Amy Segal, some great skinny jeans and a tailored blazer. At the weekend I might dress up a little with a feminine look by Kelly Love or go for high octane glamour with a piece from Philipp Plein.
3. How much time do you spend on creating your looks?
If it takes more than 20 minutes, you're over-thinking it. As long as you pull something together that makes you feel confident and comfortable throughout the day, you're doing ok.
4. Where do you get ideas for your looks? From magazines, movies, videos etc?
I'm a big movie fan so I will often find moments of inspiration in films like True Romance. Because I work in online retail I spend time trawling through blogs and online magazines. My new obsession is Pinterest. It's a great new network of photo and inspiration sharing and therefore perfect for finding something new.
5. What is your favourite piece of clothing in your closet?
I have a beautiful Shearling flight jacket that my Mum gave me. It exploded as a renewed trend on the Burberry catwalk a few seasons ago and I pull it out every Winter.
6. Your favourite shops are..
When I'm in Spain I love shopping at Alta Moda. Their new concept store Fashion Room is brilliant. They've just started to stock emerging designers from London and I love discovering new things.
7. What is your favourite color?
I love blue to look at, but I'm a big neutrals girls when it comes to clothes. Camel, beige, caramel, off white etc.
8. What are your favourite accessories?
I love vintage jewellery from designers like Heroldian Jewellery and Anna Kompaniets. My favourite piece is a vintage Chanel bag from the 80's. It's such a beautiful bag and has timeless elegance.
9. What advice would you give to have a great style?
Look to the latest trends for guidance but avoid being trend led. Stay true to your own style and use seasonal influences to breathe life into your wardrobe. For something truly unique look to young emerging designers as they're the ones making waves in the fashion industry right now. Who wouldn't have loved to own a piece from Raf Simons' earliest collections now that he's the new Creative Director of Dior?
10. Who is your favourite style icon?
I have a few as there are so many style culture references that designers channel each season. Coco Chanel for her battle to make women feel comfortable and luxurious in her clothes. Kate Moss for her ability to constantly update her style and remain an icon for each generation. And Queen Elizabeth II, if you look at all her outfits since she took up the British throne, you'll know what I mean. She's also an amazing supporter of British designers.
