Ten minutes with Dr. Kai Kaye10-11-2009
Dr. Kai Kaye, Plastic Surgeon and owner of Ocean Clinic
How long have you lived on the coast?
I have lived on the coast for four years now and I love the lifestyle more every day.
What brought you to the area? Business, lifestyle or family?
Basically I first came for business, as I found the possibilities to work as a plastic surgeon in Marbella very promising and was offered a good position. But what made me stay other then the job were my newly found friends, the sea and the possibilities to live an active life in beautiful surroundings, plus I fell in love!
What attracts you most about the southern Spanish lifestyle?
People are more laid back, and family and friends have a higher priority than in Germany or the UK, and the weather and nature make every day more enjoyable.
Describe a few ways you spend your time here? Work, recreation, shopping, socialising, friends and family…
Having founded my own Plastic Surgery Clinic a little over a year ago, I find myself with a thriving business which requires a lot of my time, care and attention. The few spare days I have are spent doing sports, going out with friends, participating in the active social life of Marbella or just relaxing on the terrace looking at the sea. It’s never boring! I am not a real shopping guy, even with all the great shops that are around.
Do you have a favourite area or part of the coast?
I love Tarifa, and I try to go there as often as weather and time allow, doing watersports, enjoying the chilled atmosphere and just being in different part of the coast.
Do you holiday in other destinations now that you have relocated to a luxury resort? If so, where?
I don’t really see Marbella as a luxury resort. It’s my home! I tend to travel more to bigger cities, making little cultural weekend trips rather than having a beach holiday in the Mediterranean. For longer trips I love to go to Asia, especially Bali.
Name a few of your favourite restaurants or cafes in Mabella.
Messura, Messina, Gorki, Cliché Bar, El Jardin
Do you have a favourite special event or celebration which takes place here?
Not in Marbella itself but I like the Easter processions in Sevilla and their feria.
Do you have a favourite time of year?
May/June,,when everything starts blossoming and the days become longer, but the main season with all the tourists is still far away.
Beachside lunch or stylish nightclub?
Mountain or beach? / Coast or the campo?
Coast AND Campo
Puerto Banús or Marbella Old Town?
Marbella Old Town
Action-packed summer season or quieter, more local winter?
Summer, within limits!
Traditional Spanish dishes or creative international cuisine?
Creative cuisine in general, and the modern Spanish cuisine can be very creative!
