Operation Tanga winner Annalisa's diary vol.122-03-2010
Our New Year Weight Loss Contest to get into great shape for 2010 with i-Marbella has finally chosen its winner, who is Annalisa Turner-Sterling (30). Operation Tanga will turn Annalisa into great shape and will help to lose those extra holiday kilos. We will provide her with a top personal trainer Samy Mohamed and a 3 months free gym membership at the well-known Plaza Gym in Centro Plaza in Nueva Andalucia. We bring you the first part of her very personal diary.
Hi my name is Annalisa and I am the very happy winner of the Operation Tanga competition here on i-Marbella.
I’ve never been an active/healthy person and I have certainly never felt the inclination to go to a gym.
I don’t have children and I somehow have always managed to maintain a slim 8st 7lb figure without any training and without any dieting.
I maintained the same eating & exercise habits when I moved to Spain in March 2008.
Something inside me has definitely changed as I have steadily piled on the pounds and my clothes have become unintentionally tighter! Maybe this has something to do with me turning 30!!
After gaining 1 stone and weighing in at 9st 6lb I joined a gym January 2009 and started dieting and going to the gym over an 8 month period. On a good week I would go 3-5 times a week (sometimes twice in 1 day!), but I could never keep this up for more than a couple of weeks at a time as I would get bored because I hadn’t seen any results. Then I would have a few ‘bad weeks’ and would only go 1-2 per week (or not at all) and would stop dieting. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Over the 8 months of yo-yoing gym trips and dieting I didn’t lose any weight, I maintained my weight at 9st 6lb.
To my dismay since I stopped training in September my weight has increased, again!!
It’s clear to me that I do need some expert advice and had been considering joining another gym and paying for a personal trainer. I wasn’t sure which gym to join and I was worried about the cost of a Personal trainer – after all, how do you know how to choose a good one? Marbella has lots of personal trainers but how do you know that they will get you results?
This is the reason I entered the I-Marbella competition. It seemed the perfect opportunity to ‘try before you buy’ and I want to get the most out of the expert advice from the team down at Plaza Gym.
Most people would look at me and think that I don’t have anything to worry about but you know how you feel within yourself when you that you’ve put weight on and you don’t feel as comfortable in your clothes?
If you’re a size 8 or size 18 and if you weigh 10 stone or 20 stone you really feel it when you’ve put a couple of stone on or increase a couple of dress sizes don’t you?? My goal is to get back to the size I was 2 years ago, and also to be really fit and toned.
I think I’ll take my inspiration from Melanie Brown. She was bigger than I am ‘before’ and she’s ended up a lot small than me ‘after’ which tells me that my goal is possible, right? I think she looks amazing.
Anyway, I gave my personal trainer a copy of the photographs and I made him laugh… I don’t think this result is possible in 3 months but at least he knows what my goals are and that I’m serious and dedicated and will get there eventually J
I will be regularly updating you on my progress and also passing on some good advice tips from my personal tra iners @ Centro Plaza Gym in Nueva Andalucia.
I went to the gym for the first time tonight and had my body measurements noted. Then Johnny Gates came to take photos of me so we have a complete record of how I look ‘before’ I start my 3 month fitness plan.
I was introduced to all of the staff at Plaza gym and they are a really friendly team.
The gym itself is very well equipped and the class timetable is varied and it suits my busy lifestyle.
I had a great talk with my trainer Samy and he made me fe el confident that he and the rest of the team would help me get fit and get me well on the way to achieving my goals.
Week 1 finished and I’m starting to get into going to the gym. Below is an account of some of the advice my personal trainer Samy has given to me for my first few weeks of training.
EXPERT EXERCISE ADVICE TIP:
If, like myself, you’ve not been exercising for some time don’t overdo it - it’s best to start slowly.
Samy advised me to take it easy in the first few weeks. He said that I needed to get used to exercising ad to concentrate on doing 1 hour cardio for every visit. I have combined this with some abdominal exercises too. In a couple of weeks Samy will devise a full muscle workout program for me.
EXPERT DIET ADVICE TIP:-
The first tip was when starting a new health regime don’t shock your body by drastically changing your diet, you need to reduce the bad food intake and to make an obvious change such as not eating carbohydrates in the evening because you wont use the energy during your sleep.
Samy told me to eat sensibly, regularly, and not to change my diet drastically. He told me to avoid drinking fizzy drinks & carton fruit juices and to replace sugar with sweetener in my tea & coffee. He also advised not to eat carbohydrates in the evening.
I’m keeping a food diary so that he can asses my eating habits and will be able to advise a diet plan in a couple of weeks.
I have now been going to the gym for the past 2 weeks. I am really enjoying it and have been going to the gym 3-4 times per week.
I’ve been following everything I’ve been advised to do and have been enjoying the spinning classes. They almost kill me but yes I love the classes J
I recommend that everybody tries the spinning classes. If you can’t keep up with the pace just turn down the resistance, sit down and keep pedalling until you find some more energy… I’m only a beginner, hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with the instructor in 3 months time.
Overall I am feeling a little encouraged because I have lost about 3lbs so far.
Next week Samy will be assessing my food diary and will give me some dietary advice. He is also going to give me a full weights workout program to follow… I feel that he’s going to start pushing me – I’m really looking forward to this.
