Tene Sommer's Blog #9: My New Home - Ibiza
19-10-2013Comments (4)
So after the summer season when everybody usually returns to their hometowns, I decided to move to an island. To be exact, to Ibiza.
Yes, I know they place is even quieter than Marbella and it is an island, so you can't drive away from here whenever you feel like going to Madrid or Sevilla. But still here I am, on the verge of the winter, in the most beautiful islands in the Balearic Islands. And of course I wouldn't move here completely alone. My partner in crime is my boyfriend, who found this amazing apartment right next to the Mediterranean Sea. And the view is to die for..
I have been in Ibiza before, last year for only couple of days. (See my column about it HERE) This is when I discovered that party fame of the island is just one side of Ibiza. It offers culture, peace and incredibly beautiful beaches and calas. If you want to get away from the stressfull life, why not come and stay at one cabins in the forest near the beach, with a dwell where you can grab the water, grow your own vegetables, meditate, practice yoga and enjoy and live the scenary of Ibiza in the forest. I didn't exactly came to live in a forest, although some people might think that Ibiza dies in the winter. The locals say in fact, that this is when the real fun begins. And if you didn't know Pacha is open all year around and the best parties (without the masses of tourists) take place in the wintertime. And of course there is the paradise island Formentera that you will never get sick of!
About the parties.. Well I did go to some of the closings, since I arrived at the time there was a closing every day of the week. For example I attended Ushuaia Closing with Loco Dice, Reboot, Luciano, Joris Voorn, Maya Jane Coles and others and it was a party that started 12am lasting until the early hours. We arrived in the afternoon and already by 9pm I was tired and it was a hot day. But how do all the people manage to stay there for 10 and 14 hours? The sad answer is drugs. Because you can't be drinking all day and night (I mean you can, but i don't' see the point) and to be honest I don't think you will even understand half of the music the DJs play unless you're not high. And that is one thing that put me down a bit, seeing 90% of the people around me taking drugs in public and not only that. They sold them too, so they make it very easy for you to access. I might have been the only person there who was a drug virgin, I'm very anti drugs, but I don't judge people who take them. Everybody is free to do whatever they feel like, we live in a free world. The good thing about the crowd in Ibiza is though, that people are mostly happy and harmless. Everybody has a very hippie attitude, which I love. No judging what you're wearing or how big bottles you have on the table like in Marbella and no high heel and mini skirt culture, just a simple jean and boots already makes you cool in Ibiza. And that is what I love about the island, everybody seems to be equal and that is what makes people want to come back here over and over again. And the celebrities also feel the more relaxed hippie atmosphere here, that is what makes it a popular destination for stars like Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, P Diddy and Mariah Carey and to many others.
Oh and there are also two nice facts about why it is good to live in Ibiza. One is that the wildlife is particularly safe, a factor which will no doubt reassure families who decide to rent a villa in Ibiza. There are no animals, reptiles, insects or any other form of wildlife native to the island that can harm you in anyway. If you want to live forever or at least through a nuclear war then Ibiza is the place for you. According to Nostradamus, the reputed French seer, the island is the only place in the Northern Hemisphere where life will survive after a nuclear fall-out due to the prevailing winds.
So I will keep you posted about my life in Ibiza and hope to see you visiting the island soon!
