The relaunching of a project known as 'Smart Costa del Sol' with an investment of nearly 557,000 euros aims to the development and promote digital tourism in Marbella. The meeting that was held on Tuesday, May, 22nd in Madrid was attended by Angeles Muñoz; Marbella Mayoress, Baldomero Leon; Innovation council and Francisco Javier García Vieira; director of ''Red.es'' Digital Public Services.
Marbella continues bringing and developing the best methods to improve tourism in the city, this time a very innovative idea was presented by the mayoress among other city councils. The relaunching the project 'Smart Costa del Sol', which has an investment of 557,000 euros for Marbella and whose development will work to promote digital tourism.
‘Smart City Development’
This initiative aimed for the smart development of the city and the improvement of the services provided to citizens and visitors, is part of the first call for smart cities that Red.es launched in 2015, whose agreement was then signed by the City Council and that, nevertheless, "has left untouched during the last two years", according to Mr, León.
'Smart Cities as Smart Tourist Destinations'
This project aims to implement measures that empower cities as smart destinations and the improvement of services through the use of information technology.
"Marbella is a pioneer in this type of initiatives and our objective is to establish ourselves as an intelligent tourist destination, bearing in mind that we must attend to the two types of tourism that coexist in our municipality: both residential tourism and visitors who enjoy our city of temporarily throughout the year, "Leon has indicated.
Moreover, Baldomero Leon also explained; With the project 'Smart Costa del Sol', Marbella will receive from the Tourism, Industry and Digital Agenda ministery a grant amount close to 446,000 euros, which together the contribution of the City Hall, will reach 557,000 euros and will allow "to develop a new initiative to improve digital tourism within the framework of our line of action, which aims to maintain that position at the forefront in the field of smart tourism destinations. "
'A Collaboration Plan'
Mr, Leon, has also highlighted that the meeting that counted with the presence of José Alonso Ayllón 'Marbella Consistory director' who agreed with the rest of the attendees to sign a 'collaboration statement' so that the 'Red.es'' would have a presence in the ‘Marbella Smart Living’ congress which will be celebrated next autumn in Marbella.
