Rotarians help to feed the homeless on Spain’s Costa del Sol Source: Rotary Club Mijas
Rotary Club Mijas International: Helping the Homeless during Christmas time. The Royal Club Mijas has done something very special for the people in the streets. On January 7th, just one day after Kings Day, Royal Club delivered food and warm clothing to the homeless in Fuengirola and Mijas, They are planning to continue with this project until alternative solutions are made.
The Mijas International Rotary Club delivered bags of food to 30 homeless people in Mijas and Fuengirola last week.

Each bag contained basic products, such as bread, ham, cheese, biscuits, chocolate, fruit, juices, etc. and recipients were also given other items, such as sleeping bags, woolen socks knitted by members of the Rotary Club, underwear, gloves and boots, depending on each person’s needs.
This project to help the homeless is not only for Christmas with the distribution of the food bags and clothing as during the year, but the club also organizes dental treatment for them.
In fact, when the food bags were delivered in January 2019 some of the homeless said they had no teeth and couldn’t eat the food being offered so members of the club decided to contact dentists and dental technicians in order to arrange for some of them to receive false teeth.

The club is very grateful for the way dentists and technicians contributed to this worthy cause. Special thanks have to be given to Clínica dental Noruega, Monte Blanco and the Dental laboratory of Francisco Terrence.
The Rotary Club will continue this work this year and would like to hear from dentists and dental technicians who would like to become involved. The Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Da Bruno restaurant on the Fuengirola-Mijas road, from 2.30 till 4.30 p.m. If anyone would like to become involved in this, or similar projects, they are invited to attend one of the meetings.
One of the first patients to receive dental care was Francisco. He was delighted to be able to eat all the items in the bag of food given out this year.
About Rotary Mijas International
Our club. English speaking, 2016 Governor Jose Luis Carvajal (2015-2016) made Nina Jarlov, member of Rotary Club Benahavis, past president of Innerwheel Marbella, past president of Fuengirola Mijas, founder of Rotary Marbella Guadalmina English speaking club in 2006…..his delegate to form an English speaking Rotary Club in Fuengirola Mijas area. He wanted to give foreigners an English speaking club.
We started meetings in September 2016 and we were inaugurated May 13th. 2017 by the Governor ISIDORO ALES GOMEZ. We were sponsored by the Benahavis Rotary club.
Quite a number of our members are X Rotarians, we have also Spanish people and we are 10 different nationalities. Our founding president is Pentti Raaste, a past president of the Fuengirola - Mijas club.
