Last Tuesday, June 19th in 2018 I was honoured to be on a guided tour to experience the Warhol temporary exhibition Warhol 'The mechanical Art ' The Malaga Picasso Museum headquarters are very committed to spare, bring and contextualize internationally the work of Pablo Picasso.

The famous pop artist Warhol art pieces are in Malaga with an exhibition of around 350 works. The exhibition includes Warhol's most iconic works, such as Campbell cans, Marilyn portraits or Brillo scourers. The Mechanical Art is the most important retrospective of the artist made to date in Spain.

Among his most iconic paintings - Before and After (1961), Three Coke Bottles (1962), Brillo Soap Pads Box (1964-1968), Gold Marilyn (1962), Liz (1963), Mao (1973), Cow Wallpaper (1966), and many more.

Andy Warhol impressive personality and wide-ranging influence in which he worked at almost everything, including music and arts.

The exhibition highlights several aspects of Warhol’s lifetime work, such as the innovative way in which he applied the idea of processing to his multi-faceted serial work, the strong biographical links, his artistic production, and his originality and talent for transversally and cyclically combining different techniques, media, and iconographic repertoires.

He tried to create copies from art in what it seems like a very easy way including many, he invented silk print from icons faces and use it also as retail merchandise advertising. How genius! He was also a successful businessman and all his pop icons faces are way more beautiful in reality than in pictures! no wrinkles, well elaborated. It felt basically like if it was made of photoshopping. As a side note: He started making these icons when they died or were a tragic moment like Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe

In addition, he created representations that are canons, as they form part of the official history of Western art, and symbols, having become part of the contemporary collective popular imagery.

About Warhol Mechanical Art

Warhol. Mechanical Art provides a complete and journey that enables visitors to follow the creative development from his beginnings as a budding commercial graphic designer in New York City in the 1950s. By the time Warhol died in 1987, he had become a universal legend.

This exposition was organized by  Museo Picasso Málaga in collaboration with Obra Social “la Caixa”, the exhibition contains a great variety of artistic pieces including: paintings, sculptures, drawings, silkscreen paintings, among others that represent the underground world that emerged in New York in the second half of the 20th century, when Warhol set up his legendary studio, The Silver Factory.

Upcoming Events

This autumn Malaga Picasso Museum will present the exhibition celebrated on October 8th 'El Sur de Picasso. Referencias andaluzas' and IV International Congress: 'Picasso and History ' where more than twenty speakers from all over the world will debate the most recent academic studies on the work of Picasso, all within the framework of the Museum's fifteenth anniversary.
