Annika's Blog: La Sala in the Sky in Marbella 2016
06-08-2016The evolution of the La Sala brand is in full speed as the group launches another exciting project -- La Sala in the Sky.
I had a chance to experience extravagant dining in the air in July 2016, which has remained one of the highlights of this summer.
Luke Jessop was the host of this sky-high-dining experiences, introducing us to the safety measures and loading us with positive vibes, helping every guest take pictures and filling up the glasses.
A five-course dinner prepared by famed local chef Aitor Perurena.
The food – show cooking at its best – spectacular highlight: a five-course dinner prepared by famed local chef Aitor Perurena in front of diners.
Up left: Bloody Mary Foam with Avocado with Fresh Cockles; Spider Crab Cannelloni with a Cardinal Prawn; Teriyaki-Lacquered Beef with Celery and Asparagus; Lemon Mousse in the Shape of a White Magnum Ice-Cream
1st course was Bloody Mary Foam with Avocado and Fresh Cockles. The nerve-soothing glass of Marques de Riscal white served with it also worked wonders, going even to the heads of those who don't normally have one for heights.
2nd course was Tuna Tartare with Lime Cloud, Wakame Seaweed and Soy Mayo – a zesty twist on a firm favourite deserving of lofty praise.
3rd course was Spider Crab Cannelloni with a Cardinal Prawn, my favourite.
4th course was Teriyaki-Lacquered Beef with Celery and Asparagus, tender enough to cut with a spoon, served with a delicious Yilera red wine.
Finally, dessert also one of my favourite – Lemon Mousse in the shape of a white Magnum ice-cream.
Every dish was served with carefully selected wine, whereas dinner included unlimited drinks, which is La Sala's trademark.
As the final touch, a glass of La Sala's premier rosa cava to toast the chef and his worthy team was served!
La Sala in the Sky is a high-flying platform that takes 22 guests to a viewing height of up to 50 metres.
La Sala in the Sky is a high-flying platform that takes 22 guests to a viewing height of up to 50 metres. The guests are comfortably strapped into a leather seat that is secured to a dining table.
The concept is one that has run since 2006 around the world, but this is the first time that it has made an appearance in the Costa del Sol, and it is the La Sala group that has picked up the challenge of organising this incredible dining experience.
There are two watchwords to this concept, exclusivity and safety, with every guest given full instructions on how to behave, with all staff wearing secured safety harnesses and with the crane operator in radio contact with the platform and safety observers on the ground.
It's by no means cheap, but it is an unparalleled experience which Forbes Magazine has named one of the world’s most extravagant meals.
There will be four journeys each day, subject, of course, to the weather, with a choice of a 45-minute Cava and Canapés Experience costing €99 plus IVA all the way to the late-night 70-minute Fantasy Dinner Experience, which includes a fine degustation menu and entertainment at €290 plus IVA.
