Annika visited one of the most spectacular corners of the valley of Río Verde: the Charco del Canalón located in Istán, Málaga, España

 A hike to La Concha mountain, a beautiful natural side of Marbella.  La Charca del Canalón is hidden spot only local knows about it. however, in recent time, it's getting more popular for tourism since several people chose this place for a pleasant weekend retreat.

How to get there?
Here's some information about all the available options to help you get to Charco del Canalón one of the most spectacular corners of the valley of Río Verde near Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain.

1. Take a road A- 7176 up to Istan, starting from Manolo Santana Racquets Club (Marbella) going up to Istan, (about 10 km) then you'll see on the left side la Concepcion reservoir and on the right side la Concha

2. Once you arrive at Istan center, then you just need to follow the signs to Istan Alto, Calle Calvario

3. At Istan simply go straight to the Sports center ( 1 km), then you'll reach a crossroad, and finally turn left.

4. After driving 500m left, you will along the river Nacimiento de Río Molinos – A beautiful spot to take a selfie

5. Then drive further until you reach an old forestry road to Monda. The way is in excellent condition though, easily runnable for all cars.

You will then reach a crossroad, turn left to Las Vegas del Colmenar (another option is Monda 15 km)

6. Then you drive down to the river nearside and then park.

I made a short adventurous trip with my family hiking to La Concha mountain where we enjoyed a picnic next to the river and surrounded by nature and mountains.

It was perhaps I'd said extreme since we wanted to be next to river not on the mountains. But next to the river there were no public WC's or a path to walk along, so we had to walk inside the river.

Summer around June in Marbella is warm so the water from the river was also really warm and nice. We enjoyed a picnic on a giant rock in the middle of the river, we could find some wooden sticks in the forest before that helped us to hike until here. The river and sports footwears were perfect for this.

On the next time, my plan is to hike up to the mountain first and farther, then come back to his refreshing river for a bath.

Around this area, all land was practically private and it was difficult to find a way to go up in the mountains, but there was a road path. We didn't reach this time to Las Charcas this need to walk up 2 km to the mountains. Instead, we just had fun in the water and enjoyed the sun so that was enough for our emotional experiences

La Charca del Canalón is a river with crystal clear water, waterfalls, hidden rock pools – merely pure paradise!

La Charca in Spanish means “river pool”. There are several larger spots for swimming, jumping and few waterfalls to have a fantastic massage. The whole area is almost untouched and very quiet place. You can always go further up to the river and find more hidden spots.

Hiking along the river to La Charca del Canalón is entirely different and an exiting natural experience. So if you want to have fun, hiking, and a picnic with family this is the best way to do it!. It is 8 km far from the village of Istan.
