Winter fruit sangria
25-02-2011 Comments (2)Sangria is traditionally a Spanish party drink made by infusing wine with various fruits and fortifying it with a spirit such as brandy. Lemonade is added to make it a light and refreshing sipper. This recipe features dried figs, apricots, cranberries, and raisins, giving it a warm, rich, indulgent flavor. The flavours need time to meld, so feel free to prepare the sangria up to a day ahead.
Ingredients
- 6 dried Calmyrna (light) figs, sliced
- 6 dried apricots, cut into slivers
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 1 750 ml. bottle Rioja or Merlot
- 1 10-oz. bottle lemonade
Directions
In a saucepan stir together the dried fruits, brandy, and honey. Cook over medium-low heat until simmering. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Add wine; stir. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours. To serve, strain sangria into a pitcher. Add ice cubes and lemonade; stir gently.
