Victoria Azarenka Wins in Marbella
10-04-2011Victoria Azarenka has engraved her name on the list of winners of Andalucía Tennis Experience after she defeated Irina Begu in two straight sets 6-3 6-2 this afternoon on the Center Court of Puente Romano Tennis Club.
Thanks to this victory she will climb to the fifth place of the world ranking, the highest in her career so far.The Belarusian has started the match very focused and already in the first game she managed to break her rival´s service. Then, thanks to her powerful forehand and an outstanding and aggressive game, she rapidly set up the result on the scoreboard 3 to 0. Despite all the attempts of Begu, who put all her efforts in trying to respond to her opponent's game, Belarusian easily won the first set 6-3
The spectators, who filled up the grandstand of the center court, could see the beginning of the second set more tied. The Romanian visibly tired due to the number of consecutive matches that she has played pretty much every day and because of the intense semifinals match she played yesterday against Kuznetsova, was not able to respond to the powerful shots of Belarusian. With the result 2 - 2 on the scoreboard, Azarenka decided not to give any more games away and won the second set 6-2. "I am very satisfied with the tournament I've played. I came to play this tournament right after Miami and I was a bit tired but I played well from the beginning. Moreover, it has been great to play here in Marbella. I really enjoyed the place and the tournament. I'm very happy, "said Azarenka.
Despite the defeat, Begu has passed into the annals of the tournament as the qualifier that has gone furthest in the tournament's history. Azarenka in turn, becomes the third winner of Andalucía Tennis Experience, taking over from Serbian Jelena Jankovic and Italian Flavia Pennetta.
