Over 30 Spaniards are still missing after the recent earthquake that devastated Haiti.

Seventy five of the one hundred and eleven Spanish nationals residing in Haiti have been contacted by the Spanish Embassy and are said to have minor injuries but many are still missing.

The International Red Cross have estimated that 45,000 to 50,000 people have been killed, with an estimated one million children affected by the catastrophic earthquake that rocked Port-au-Prince on January 13.

A desperate situation is worsened by the lack of food, water, aid and law enforcement and it has been reported that in the capital, Port-au-Prince, frustrated locals have been stacking up the cadavers to make roadblocks in a protest at the delay.

Rescue teams have flown in from all over the world but due to lack of mobility in many areas the indispensable supplies are not getting to those who are in desperate need of them quickly enough.  The Spanish Red Cross is scheduled to send out another three planes this week.

Foreign Minister, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, met with in Haiti's ambassador to Spain, Yolette Azor Charles in Madrid to express gratitude to Spain for its “enormous” support and made a global appeal for ongoing support and not to “abandon Haiti”.

A meeting is to be held in Madrid tomorrow for Ambassadors to Spain from all the Latin American Countries to organize relief efforts.
