Seven stolen paintings recovered in Madrid
16-11-2011There was a Dalí among the works now recovered.
The Guardia Civil has recovered seven paintings in Madrid and made four arrests. The artworks, which include one by Dalí and another by Sorolla, were taken from a chalet in Adanero, Ávila in 2002. They were found in the Madrid town of Valdemoro.
The other works are by Rosen Roses, Gustavo Doré, a portrait of Hernán Cortés from the 16th century, and a drawing by Nicanor Piñole.
Three men and a woman have been arrested, and the value of the works recovered is estimated to be 4 million €. Investigations were centered in those close to the man who reported the paintings stolen and it is reported that fingerprint evidence is key.
