1. Once again Ocean Clinic has been nominated at the Marbella Awards. How important is this award to you and your clinic?
It is an very well know award which has been around for a couple of years and has a high acceptance among the Marbella community- so that we won it last year was a very nice recognition of the effort, dedication and care my team and I offer our patients since three years now. The patients are in our daily focus, and seeing them happy and satisfied makes us proud, especially as we are a small, exclusive clinic who did win the award against bigger clinics which have been in the market longer.
And we would be very pleased if our patients and friends support us this year in the same way to win it again.
2. What is the secret of your success? What does it take to make it in this business?
This is always very hard to say for yourself. I think what makes us different is the time we dedicate to each patient and that we always thrive to be perfectionists in our care, no matter if it takes longer or needs more effort. I see every patient who comes to my clinic myself since I started Ocean Clinic in 2008, I almost never delegate even simple things like dressing changes or removal of stitches, because I like to see the evolution of all my patients and be able to take action whenever it is needed. I think one another thing which my patients really realize and appreciate is that I am in love with my profession. Even in weeks with long hours and may surgeries I always go to work with a feeling of pleasure.
Apart from that I can rely on a fantastic, multilingual team of equally dedicated profesionals who share my vision of patient care and try to make it possible every day that our patients feel happy and at home.
3. Usually people think that being a plastic surgeon is quite a glamorous life. But what are the downsides of your job that people never notice or see?
Most people only get the image transported by TV-Series or media - in my opinion it is a profession which not more or less glamorous than others, the only difference is that we sometimes are more in the center of interest, because almost every human being is interested in beauty and how to achieve it; and I am in touch with it every day.
The downsides are that working with people is always more of a challenge that doing finace or trading goods - you don't only have to do an excellent work as a surgeon, but you must be able to understand human conditions, expectations, dreams and fears - a big part of my work is being a listener and being empathic to my patients, because only if you understand what somebody wants you can than use your skills to make it possible. You have to love this part of the job, because it can be exausting, but I do enjoy it every day. A part from this, you are basically every night "on call", which is a big responsability, you of have to plan your life a bit around your patients, and not the other way around. I work almost every day 12 hours, come home late and spend more time with my clinic than with anything elese including family and friends- that's maybe the non-glamourous part that people never see.
4. What do you love about your job the most?
I love it that I can help somebody feeling more attractive and more in harmony with their body only by taking some hours of time, some simple instruments and my hands and my sense for beauty. In my opinion, plastic and aesthic surgery has a strong artistic side, and that is another thing I really love about my job.
5. What are your plans for the future of Ocean Clinic?
My plans are to grow into a bigger structure in the near future to be able to offer my patients more space for other treatments a part from surgery, we are incorporating at the moment some new staff members like a nutritionist and a beautician, and more nurses to be able to do deliver our widely recognized standard of care facing steadily growing number of patients. And we are looking forward to the coming years to have the possibility to strengthen our position as the leading plastic and aesthetic surgery clinic on the coast.
