New Body Image Study: You Think You're Thinner
15-12-2009 Comments (1)Here's a trip: According to the results of a new study, you may be obese but think you look healthy and fit...
According to a new study presented at a meeting hosted by the American Heart Association, as many as 10 percent of obese people "misperceive that their body size is normal and think they don't need to lose weight." This is all based on a survey of nearly 6,000 people, 54 percent of them women, who were asked to select their body size and shape on a chart of 9 different body types.
While this study hints at the obvious--how can you slim down and get healthy (reducing your risk for heart disease, cancer and other weight-related illnesses) if you don't know that you're obese?--on the flip side, who are we to wag our fingers at people who have a great body image--at any size?
