Spanish village votes on Smurf houses this weekend
14-12-2011Júzcar, Málaga, must decide if it wants to keep its houses the blue colour they were painted for the world premiere of The Smurfs 3D.
It’s now six months since the small village of Júzcar, in inland Málaga province, turned blue when it became the world’s first Smurf Village after it was chosen by Sony for the world premiere of the film The Smurfs 3D.
An estimated 80,000 tourists have visited Júzcar since then, but the locals must now decide if they want their houses to return to their original, pristine white or to remain their current blue Smurf colour. The villagers have been called out to vote on Sunday and the final result will be announced on the following Friday, December 23.
The Town Hall has promised to pay for the paint, whether it be for the upkeep of the blue or a repaint in white.
