Food Review by Xusan Teo:Restaurant Trocadero Playa in Rio Real, Marbella
09-01-2012 Comments (1)Trocadero Arena, a sister restaurant of Trocadero Playa, is just less than 5 minutes drive east from Marbella, down on the beach you enter this cosy Kenyan Safari designed restaurant.
In the evening, the soft lighting really creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere with beautiful wildlife paintings on the walls. By day, you could really enjoy your decent lunch on this sandy beach. It is on one of the most beautiful beach on the coast of Marbella with beautiful palm trees and outstanding coastline with Gibraltar ahead of you.
With me tonight were Wolfgang Schlesier owner of Casa Marbella Real Estate, dear friends Alia Babapulle and John Bhimji, my usual food-gang who are discerning guests when come to food and wines.

We were welcome by the Maitre Juan and the Head Chef Miguel Palma. The chef suggested a surprise menu with recommended Cava and red wine. They started us off by surprise with a decent glass of delicious dry Sherry and Red Almadraba Tuna Tartar with Jellied Tuna Jus. It was delicate and with the pickled Seaweeds in between gave it a good tasty crunch, highly recommended.

A bottle of 2009 dry Pink Cava Agusti Torrello Mata was presented to accompany the tasty mixed of Warm Vegetable Salad in Soya with Mesclun leaves, Glazed Baby Onions and Sun-dried Tomatoes with Truffle Vinaigrette, followed by a small sample of the Carved, Barbequed Veal Fillet Steak Tartar.

Another bottle gone another bottle served, this time a bottle of 2007 red Ribera del Duero Crianza, Abadia de San Quirce, was presented to accompany the rest of the dishes. First the seasonal autumn dish, Mushrooms with Egg and then a Rack of Pre Salé Lamb with creamy Coriander Rice, meat was nicely cooked pink still moist and juicy inside, was really great.

After the well prepared and tasty dishes, we were all pampered with something sweet, Russian Almond Cake
Score for Restaurant Trocadero Arena:
Quality: 9/10
Taste: 8.5/10
Presentation: 8.7/10
Suggestions:
The dishes are all very delicious and well cooked and presented. For alternative choices
you can always make a little twist.
1) If you don’t like tuna you can always use fresh Salmon instead. One could also
make a tartar of lightly marinated fresh Salmon, Quail eggs and Guacamole and
top with Salmon Eggs if one desire.
2) The Warm Vegetable Salad can be changed or added easily, for example add a few
mini pieces of Honey Grilled Goat Cheese served with Balsamic Glazed instead. It
just smoothly melt in your mouth

I enjoyed the meal, especially the first plate, the contrasts of crunchiness, salty tang of the golden caviar, tuna and tuna aspic, were great flavours and textures.
It was a shame that it was such a cold night and it was quite cool in the restaurant, maybe on such nights they should use more heaters than they had.
