Atalaya Golf & Country Club - the future host of the Andalucian Open?
04-02-2012
The strong interest on both sides places Atalaya Golf as a strong candidate to host the event in the future.
Last December Mr. José María Zamora, Tournament Director of the European Tour, and the lawyer of “Fade & Draw target”, company of the Group Miguel Ángel Jimenez, that manages the tournament, visited Atalaya Golf & Country Club. Apparently both entities are studying different locations for the celebration of the next ‘Open de Andalucia’, and the course located between Marbella and Estepona is among these options.
Atalaya Golf & Country Club at the present has two 18-hole courses and spacious practice facilities. The characteristics of its ‘Old Course’, designed by Bernard von Limburger, are wide fairways and elevated greens, and together with its privileged situation the golf course offers the perfect setting for this sort of competitions.
During the visit an inspection of all the services and infrastructures was carried out, as well as a checking of fundamental aspects like the design of the course, the maximum length to achieve, the quality of its maintenance, the practice area and the available space for tents, communication media, workshops to assist the players, or parking for the spectators, participants and organizers of the tournament.
Although the proximity of the tournament makes it difficult to think that Atalaya has time enough to conclude the changes needed to host the event, the great interest from both sides to carry it out, places Atalaya as a strong candidate to do it in the future. Atalaya Golf & Country Club feels proud of the interest on behalf of the European Tour and informs that they will continue with their plan to improve the facilities to make sure, if for this edition it wouldn’t be possible, to opt again for the celebration of the event in 2013.
