Marbella to hold European Grand Prix!
01-04-2011 Comments (1)In a sensational move, the FIA today announced that the 2015 European Grand Prix will be held in Marbella!
Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and the rest of the Formula One circus is coming to Marbella. In a sensational move F1's governing body, the FIA, announced that the town will host the European Grand Prix in a five-year-deal starting in 2015.
"We decided on the move from Valencia to Marbella for several reasons" said a spokesman. "We wanted to keep the Grand Prix in Spain because of the passion for motor sport that the people have here, especially for Fernando Alonso, and since Valencia lost the America's Cup, it hasn't had much of the "Monaco Factor" that we were hoping for when we gave them the European Grand Prix.

"Marbella, Spain's most jet set resort, has that factor in spades. You only have to look at the yachts in Puerto Banus, the designer fashion and jewellry stores and the supercars that you see driving up and down the Golden Mile every day to realise that a F1 Grand Prix would be perfect here"
Plans for the street circuit are being worked on at the moment, but its though that most of the action will take place around the Marbella Port area, which is undergoing a multi million euro transformation, as well as passing local landmarks such as the Marbella Arch and the Marbella Club Hotel.
The FIA is believed to be in talks with Race Resort Ascari to provide marshalls. Marbella has had a long association with motorsport, with F1 champion James Hunt living here in the 70s, while Sir Stirling Moss, Martin Brundle and Damon Hill are frequent visitors. Puerto Banus also held a Renault 5 Turbo race in the mid 80s.
"We're really looking forward to coming to Marbella" said the spokesman "Marbella has a great climate, fantastic nightlift and superb golf courses. And who knows? We might even get Milady Palace to supply some pit lane girls!"
