Spain owes France 25 million € for nuclear waste treatment
24-01-2012
The situation will improve when Spain's storage facility at Villar de Cañas is constructed.
Spain owes France more than 25 million € for the treatment of radioactive waste from the Vandellós nuclear plant. The money, 25,181,200 € has been owed since the start of 2011, and over last year the debt rise by a million and a half Euros. The number has been confirmed by Enresa to the newspaper 20minutos.es
Every day that Spain has not constructed their own temporary storage facility at Villar de Cañas, it is costing the country 64,900 €.
Spain says that when the treated nuclear residues come back to Spain ‘a regularisation of the accounts’ will take place.
The project to build a new storage centre at Villar de Cañas will give a 60 year storage period for high level waste when the facility is built. 700 million is to be spent in the installation which is expected to give work for 300 during the first five years of its construction, rising to 500 jobs later.
