AU: Annika Urm
TIM: Tim Storey
AU: 1. How many times have you had Setbacks in your life?
TIM: I think that obviously, we all have setbacks in our life. I started as a young boy with a lot of dreams. A lot of happiness a lot of laughter.
The first real big set back happened when my father, he died, and it was when I was 10 years old.
That was very hard on me because just to have him around was great. He was tall, he was very good looking, and either way, you get a lot of charisma from him. That's one place where I really understood the strength and learned how to handle things because I have never been put in that position before.
My father died. So it wasn't just the loss of my father. Now I had a different mother. And what happened is that my mother, after he died, she was sad. I didn't know a sad mother before. I knew a strong mother.
So it was very difficult, as a child, to get better. He was driving and had an accident with a man who passed a red light. And my father was going through the green light correctly and then died in this accident.
I think that we all have many setbacks and in different areas of our lives. And I think that for me losing my father was the biggest.
I feel that this helped equip myself and prepared me for things that would later happen in my future. I don't really see setbacks as one being bigger than the other. I just say that they come. It could happen in the area of your relationship, or it could happen in many areas. So this definitely trained me.
AU: 2. How did you make a Comeback? Please give us 2 advice to get ready to come back and get over any setback?
TIM: What I learned to do in this in the situation, in any setbacks of my life is that I needed to know that I needed to learn from people who were stronger than me. And mentors have played a great role in my life.
AU: Who are your mentors?
TIM: When I was young my school teacher. At the time my father died, he really cared about me, he had compassion because I talked about it with him. And he would call my house make sure I was OK.
My own teacher, and even after I left his class and went to the next class the next year he would call my house to talk to my mother to make sure I was OK.
AU: Wow. Yeah.
So part of my strength even to this day is that I have amazing mentors in my life.
This is great.
AU: That's why you have become a great mentor.
AU: 3. And what is your advice to all people on how to come over their setbacks?
TIM: I think the first thing is to understand that setbacks will happen. It's not unusual. I give you an example if you're going to take a trip from Marbella to Madrid by car. That edge of driving. There may be some bugs that come and hit the windshield. You understand like mostly certain times of the year the bugs were here.
And so I call this "bugs on the windshield". So when you are living this thing called life. There will be things that hit you. So in my journey from Marbella to Madrid, I know I'm going to get some bugs on my windshield. OK so if I am married, Bugs on the windshield; if I have a big business, Bugs in the windshield.
But sometimes they are very big. Sometimes they keep you, sometimes they are very big and you need to pull over and clean them off.
Sometimes you get the hostage out with them.
AU: Yes, like big ones. How do you get over this bugs (setbacks)?
TIM: The best way to think about it is this. The first way to think about it when you go through a setback.
- a) Setback situation is normal; everyone has them.
- b) You need to find a person who has more skills than you dealing with that situation
- c) You need to find support
Is like I said. Number one you need to realize it's not unusual. So number two. Now you have to to find a person or information about how to deal with this. A person or information that's more valuable than what you already know.
Yes. So just as you may not know how to get through something you can read a book by somebody that teaches you to get through that situation. Or you can watch a TED talk or an Oprah Winfrey interview.
And that's a beautiful thing about the world today, you can now call upon people who are more skilled in this situation.
So, I have a setback. I think number one: OK this happens it happened just like if I play sports I may fall over my knee.
Number two: give me somebody more skilled who knows how to handle this. Number three: I need support.
So I call it the power of partners. I have firm friends in my life. I have people that would almost give their life for me.
That plays a huge role in my life.

AU: 5. I was listening to your question answering on Facebook, and that was it. How to Choose the right people. Like you need to choose people with the right mindset and same motive.
OK. I understood everything, but now I find that these people maybe their motive will change. So how do I recognize this and What can I do about it?
TIM: OK. So I talk about that when you're finding a partner, you look for the right mindset in the right motive.
TIM: But sometimes people do change.
AU: Exactly. So and you are thinking like they are going in your direction but actually, they are not.
TIM: It's important for you to change their position in your life. Oh yeah. You have to reposition them.
So let's say if you're playing football. We call it soccer, you call football. Maybe at one time, the person was in one position, and now you put them in another place across the field.
So not all people should be cut out of your life just reposition.
I have people who don't even know I repositioned them.
Then, you change the way you respond to them emotionally.
So what happens is that you don't share as much and you don't give them as much as you used to.
And what happens is that you learn to have more boundaries with people.
I am a master at boundaries. A master!!!
Yeah, actually I was learning this way. You can't let everybody in.
If you let them in, they can stab your back.
AU: 6. How is coaching different from American to Europe?
TIM: I think that I was really raised in Europe. I came to Sweden to speak at the age of 20. All by myself, just me and a passport. And I was in Sweden for two months, then I came back at 21 for two more months. At the time I was speaking in schools about leadership and dreams.
AU: Which language?
TIM: In English with an interpreter.
And then I did it a third time. So, three summers in a row and some Swedish people began to connect me to other countries.
And then I did it in Madrid, Spain. It was probably at the age of 23.
I was started in Europe so early in my 20s. This helped me understand the culture a little more. And I feel like I have a worldwide language. I feel like some of the American speakers are limited.
You hear the way I talk and it's very simple and repeating. My mother is Spanish and therefore my first language is Spanish.
AU: And your father?
TIM: a Cuban.
AU: So no different from your father’s America?
TIM: No, it is. It is very different. This is very different. I think that a lot of the Americans want an instant reaction. They want immediate satisfaction, a quick fix.
On the other hand, I think that a lot of Europeans enjoy the journey. For example, a lot of young people in Europe finish school and maybe travel for one year. That's not so common with Americans. You finish school and go straight to college.
AU: 7. about today. I was actually thinking of questions about information defining desire, dedication, and discipline on leadership. (We had Tim Storey leadership training on 04 of June 2019- "To Lead Your Ship to Success" in Marbella at Puente Romano Hotel)
What about DESIRE, DEDICATION, DISCIPLINE, and DREAM?
TIM: Hey, you're good.
DESIRE- Desire is in you!
DREAMS- one of the best ways to find your dreams is to listen! But for this people need to learn to be quiet. They will hear their dreams talk to them. Your dream has a voice. Your dreams are talking to you in your sleep. They're talking to you when you're driving but you have to be quiet to hear your dreams speaking to you.
AU: I think this is my lesson of the day!
TIM: So you listen to your dream. That's how you do it.
100% and that's my specialty playing with all that I have going on. I keep on with so many projects and look how relaxed I am.
I quiet my mind in prayer and meditation. That's it. I am a professional at this. I can sit in a room and just go completely quiet. And meditate on the right things. And it changes the page in my life. It just shifts it.
AU: 8. Desire, dedication, discipline. How do you find it?
TIM: Discipline is best found by watching somebody else. And I give an example. When I was in college. I had to do my own laundry. To do my own clothes. Yeah. And so I noticed that one of the guys that I lived with, he was the best at doing his clothes. I mean for a young man. You gain watching someone else.
So I watched the way he came back from the laundry room and how he had his basket everything so folded so perfect. So I never asked him. How do you do this? I said to him. Hey. Michael. I would like to go with you sometime when you go to do your clothes. Oh, of course. So when do you do it? He said every Saturday morning. What time. 8:00 in the morning I asked, Can I go with you? Yes. I never said anything. I watched the way he did. I saw what detergent he buys. I never knew about this fabric softener before. That smells good. No wonder his clothes looked so good. No, I didn't know about this. Then I watch how he did it all. I watched and learned. I just looked at him pull his pants boom boom boom boom.
Boom boom boom boom.
After three Saturdays: One, two, and three. I became Michael.
I got his thing. Same thing he ordered. But he never even knew. I got the fabric softener my clothes started smelling like his. And when I came to put them in the drawer at the school, they were exactly as if he did it.
I said to myself.
Look how good he does it. I desire that.
So this is the same when I first saw a very classy man. So I saw a very chic black man in a movie. His name is Billy Dee Williams, and he was playing with Diana Ross. It's a famous movie. He also was in Star Trek and He had a way about it altogether.
I said, look at how he walks, how he looks, how he opens the door in the car.
I'm going to be that man
AU: Oh just how old were you at that time?
TIM: Maybe 12, 13, or 14. I was already ahead from other kids.
AU: And then you already knew this is what you liked.
TIM: Yes. So I was modeling. So if you watch me now, every move I make. I'm Billy Dee Williams.
And I do my laundry like Michael
AU: 9. how do you lead your ship away from destruction?
TIM: If you have had destruction, then you need help to get out of the destruction. And so it is essential to get the right people. People who have compassion towards the fact that your ship has crossed crash. You have to take time. If something crashes you need to stop.
I give you three things to get out of the destruction:
1. Number one STOP
2. Number two, you need to look within.
3. And number three, you need to listen to what's next.
I call it "Stop, Look, Listen". So if something terrible happens, you have to stop. You have to deal with the situation, you look within, and you listen!
If you have an accident, you can’t just leave the scene. So don't leave the scene of your accident.
If you have a problem with your relationship with your boyfriend or your husband. You don't just leave the scene of the accident: Stop, Look within and listen for what your voice is telling you to do.
AU: 10. How do you attract the right people and opportunities to your life?
TIM: I feel that By YOU being the best version of yourself you will draw the people that the universe has called to you. And so, I never tried to become friends with Oprah Winfrey, but I believe I attracted her by being the best version of Tim Storey.
And I think by being the best version of myself I can continue to attract people all over the world.
The answer is being the best version of yourself, which the best version of me is that I'm funny, I'm happy and I care, and acknowledge what you are, your nature.
So I am the best version of myself, that’s when the best things are happening.
I think what happens is that life has more. I would say in my way of speaking more mercy than we understand.
Life would sometimes give you good things even when you don't think you deserve them. It's just the beauty of the universe. Life will give you gifts even when it's not your birthday.
So I don't believe that everything is as if you do something and you instantly get a negative response. I think the universe is patient and does not always respond immediately.
Sometimes it takes a while to understand something and this is the thing with celebrities that I have become the best at.
Many people say "tell him this or tell her this or she needs this" and I say "oh it's OK. Let's take our time with this person". She will get it, she will find a way. And then you find the girl's career is still going great and people don't even know she has a problem. But the universe is being patient.
AU: 11. What is the most effective way to interact and lead others?
TIM: By example. When you go down some roads they have giant billboards. So you can be a billboard for better living. The greatest example is by being yourself. That's how I influence people.
And this is what I hear constantly. I go to the airport and I get people to say: “Oh my gosh, he's so nice, He took his time, He gave me a book, He was asking about my children”.
So, I lead by example.
TIM Storey: I want to say to you on your recorder you did a very good job.
I was very proud of you.
Very good interview. Great questions. Yes. You have very a good soul.
AU: Thank you, sir.
