Steve Jobs final words, and more bedside revelations
05-11-2011 Comments (1)
There are some new details about what happened in the hours and moments before Steve Jobs met his untimely end. In a eulogy at a private ceremony, Jobs's sister Mona Simpson said her brother looked up from his deathbed and said, "Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow." Those were his final words.
"Steve's final words were monosyllables, repeated three times," Simpson said in the eulogy, as reported by the New York Times. Simpson noted that she and Jobs's wife Laurene, as well as his children and his other sister Patty, were all in the room when Jobs took his final breaths.
Although the news seemed sudden and surprising to the blogosphere, the death apparently did not surprise Jobs. He knew his final hours were near; he called Simpson the day before he died and told her to "hurry up" to his home in Palo Alto, California. He also told her he was "sorry, truly deeply sorry, to be leaving us."
Jobs didn't meet Simpson until she was 25, after he came into contact with his biological mother. The two became as close as any other brother and sister. Jobs died in his home instead of going to a hospital or hospice facility. By all accounts, he was just as enthusiastic about his life and work at the end as he had always been. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy will remain with the world for the rest of time.
