Penguin falls for her keeper
05-11-2009 Comments (2)It´s an unrequited office romance that definitely won't be developing. African penguin Sandy has fallen madly in love with her zoo keeper and there's no way of convincing her that he's just not that into her.
Peter Vollbracht, who works for Germany's Muster Zoo, puts up with the pining penguin's displays of affection. Sandy loves to nuzzle at his wellies or does her best to leap into his arms.
Peter (47) told The Austrian Times: "She has 80 other penguins to choose from and she ignores them all to choose me. She is adorable but it is a bit like having a stalker."
The only time she showed interest in a male of her own species was when she mated with another penguin and raised two chicks. But when he died of a lung infection she turned her seductive charm back on for Peter.
"It's flattering but I can't stay her partner for ever. She needs to get out and meet some nice penguin boys."
