Speeding fines up 123 % in five years in Malaga
14-04-2012
In five years, the number of speeding fines issued in Malaga city has increased by 123%!
Although the number of fines last year fell by 25% they had been climbing constantly since 2007, according to the local Safety Department. Meanwhile, other fines, for example for illegal parking, failing to wear a helmet, unloading in unauthorized areas or using a mobile phone while driving aso, have fallen over the same period.
In 2007, when there were no speed traps in the city, there were 14 841 fines issued for speeding. The first permanent speed traps were installed the next year, and fines dropped to 5 482, however, from then on they have only been rising. In 2010, it reached the peak with the number being 44 046, and the fall in number last year is thought by the Local Police to be due simply to people using their cars less because of the crisis.
