Gibraltar builds a second border fence04-06-2012
- It follows a tobacco smuggling incident last week.
- Gibraltar has strengthened the border fence to Spain by erecting a second metal fence as tension between the two Governments remains high. An incident last Thursday when a Gibraltar Policeman was slightly injured by Spanish smugglers who had broken through a hole in border fence, has led Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo to increase security.
- According to police sources in Spain, this is the first time that Gibraltar is helping to repair the fence, which could have derived in a diplomatic conflict as it is not clear who it belongs to. Spanish workers also made the fence good at the point where the smugglers broke through, but the second fence comes as surprise.
