Saeko Hamada's Column Vol.18:London's Uptown & DownTown
03-01-2011 Comments (2)My life in London was based in Kensington and Knightsbridge in 1989. I thought I knew London very well, but really I only knew my neighbourhood and I never got a chance to explore the city until recently. Everything comes in its own time.
On this trip I went to Camden Town for the first time and met a hip-hop Chihuahua who dressed super cool like Stephen Webster! He was a little bit nervous in front of the camera compared to Marbella Chihuahuas such as Fernando - my Chihuahua - and his friends who go to galas and parties every day and are used to cameramen. All of my girlfriends were surprised to hear that I went to Camden Town, but I had a excellent time and was very impressed by the street art and culture.
Later that day we went to an exclusive cocktail in Mayfair, full of beautifully spoken and dressed guests. I met many interesting people there and thanks to Atousa and Negar for their kind invitation. After this exceptionally elegant cocktail we went back across the river to a typical London pub in Batersea Park called Prince Albert - a very charming place with traditional English food. At the pub I met James Hatfield who has started his own brand called "PoshPunk". I think we are living a world of "PoshPunk" these days as there isn't a dividing line between Uptown and Downtown.
The next day I also enjoyed my "PoshPunk" life in London. I spent the morning exploring the London Underground and took the bus (which I had never done in London before) and stopped in at Harrods before going back to Bond Street for a book presentation cocktail of Natalie Von Bismark in Asprey.
Thank you to my dear friend Ahmed Ashmawi for organising this. We spend some quality time with old friends from this legendary Crown Jewellery firm, where the staff remembered my mother's name and even my dog's name and asked me how they were after all these years! They are the top of the top London Uptown shop in every way.
Later that evening we went to Notting Hill to eat Persian food with our dear Persian friends and we had a great time!!! This time I reconfirmed how lucky I am to have my friends, because of them I enjoy both Uptown and Downtown life with their great company!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

For London visitors I also recommend the wonderful Gauguin Exhibition in Tate Modern.
