The “Butterfly Children” Charity Golf Tournament & Ball
11-06-2012The “Butterfly Children” charity golf tournament and ball held last Saturday at the Aloha Golf Club has managed to raise 32,700 euros in spite of the general situation of acute financial crisis.
DEBRA Spain is a non-profit organization formed by people living with Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) as well as social-health professionals and friends, all working together to improve the quality of life of people, mostly children, and families affected by EB. Founded in 1993, it has been designated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs as an entity of "public need and importance".
Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is an inherited connective tissue disease causing blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes, with an incidence of 1/50,000. Its severity ranges from mild to lethal. It is caused by a mutation in the keratin or collagen gene. As a result, the skin is extremely fragile. Minor mechanical friction or trauma will separate the layers of the skin and form blisters. People with this condition have an increased risk of cancers of the skin, and many will eventually be diagnosed with it as a complication of the chronic damage done to the skin.
After the Golf the guests enjoyed a lovely dinner at Aloha Golf Club, where the band Shameless made people dance til the early hours..
