SOS Andalucia community website is ready!
06-09-2012SOS Andalucia now has a website www.sosandalucia.com and a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SOSAndalucia/ where you can find information about the fire damage and also how to help the victims!
Here is a brief explanation of how SOS Andalucia community was formed:
As the wildfire tragedy was beginning its strike across Andalucia, its residents started coming together to volunteer themselves to help in whichever way they could. Just hours into the fateful Thursday evening, a Facebook group called “SOS Volunteers Andalucia” was created to provide a social communication and information exchange platform for its fast growing followers. 3 days later, the group now has over 3,600 members.
The group has a team of 5 coordinators, who have now set up this interactive website, www.sosandalucia.com, which is updated on a regular basis with all the relevant information, events, requirements and stories, as well as offering the facility to communicate the needs of those affected and the availability of aid and help from the volunteers.
It has become a trusted forum for the organisation of aid donation points, identification of needs of those affected and calls for action to fulfil them, as well as queries and status updates regarding many aspects of this SOS. This international community has also already established many key relationships and collaboration with various related organisations, such as local charities, media and Town Halls. The group’s plan is to continue to serve as such a centralised platform for any other potential future SOS that may hopefully not happen in the region of Andalucia. To those of you who have volunteered already, thank you, thank you. The support is overwhelming!
Please be aware that currently they are not a registered charity and they cannot accept direct funds. In due course they are speaking with Cruz Roja who will receive the donations for them and they will also make arrangements to link up with other local charities, no doubt, over the next few days. The community will keep you update on a running total and where and when it is spent. All they ask is that you continue to be as amazing as you are.
The SOS project is very transitory at the moment and they are collaborating with various official departments to keep upto date with facts and figures every second, so please be patient. They will update you as soon as we have facts to report.
