Sam Cameron's Marbella Nightlife Blog #16: Spanish Producer JOSE DE MARA!
12-06-2012On this week's Blog I will be interviewing my friend Jose de Mara, a producer from Madrid who recently launched his label Arcadia Records and so far has had support from Worldwide Superstar DJs such as Tiësto, Chuckie, and many more!
A nice blend between Nicky Romero, Alesso, and Hardwell is how I would describe his style. Jose de Mara is proving himself Spain has hidden talent all over the country! We don't just bullfight & play Football people…
Anyway let's get you to know him a little more!
Q: What got you into DJing and Producing?
A: Honestly, I never expected be a DJ. I just love electronic music since I was child, then I started to have a look on djs like Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Carl Cox, I felt like I would really love to make something like them. For me, was really awesome take the chance for make thousand of people feel something especial with your music.
Q: When did you decide this was the career you wanted?
A: When I started to feel than lot of Djs was supporting me as a DJ, and big names like Armin Van Buuren playing my tracks years ago under my trance music alias “Raver”, this was an inflexion point in my career, for sure.
Q: What equipment/software do you use to produce your music?
A: Not so much things, a MacPro, a portable Apogee Duet2 soundcard, Master Keyboard and some analog stuff like a Clavia Nordlead, but to be honest, I´m not using it so much in these days; and my lovely pair of Adam speakers of course! Software I´m using Logic Pro and a hundred of plugins that I´m still checking at the moment hahaha.
Q: When did you sign your first record deal?
A: I made some records before my new career as Jose De Mara (JDM), my first single was released by Spinnin Records on 2010, a track with a Club House style called “Dance Of Light”.
Q: When was Arcadia Records launched? Which are the near future plans for your record label?
A: Arcadia was launched a few months ago with the purpose to establish as one of the big Mainstream labels of Spain and continue growing up with no limits into international market. I´m so patient about that, it is not easy, and maybe I need some years, but I feel that I´m doing the right things. First idea about Arcadia, was to start releasing my own tracks and see what happen next, but now, I´m trying to find new talents around the world, trying to give them the chance to release his music, in case that it has a touch fresh and original.
Q: As I said before, I think your style is a blend between Alesso, Nicky Romero & Hardwell. How would you describe your style?
A: Difficult to say, I have so many influences, but I´m trying to be myself all the time. I come from trance music, so I like to use these kind of sounds in my music, but now I´m trying to mix that with some “musical instruments” real instruments, like piano, violins, guitars. I think the most important part of my music is about feelings, I want to show my feelings in my music all the time, it´s very important for me. I can do some epic tracks and banger club tracks, in the meantime, I like to do whatever I want.
Q: Congratulations on 'Take Off', your latest single on Beatport. Tiësto not only played it on his weekly podcast, but played it twice in a row!!! Im very happy for you, what can you say about this?
A: What can I say! I´m so proud, and I guess, in this moment, I just like to thank you to Tiësto and the rest of the artists that support me, it´s so awesome to see this kind of reactions with your first label release, and that push me so strong to keep doing my projects. 50% of the success is thanks to new Australian talent called “Walden”, because he did it very well with the remix!
Q: Which cities have you played in and which would you say is your favorite?
A: I played in some interesting cities like Sao Paulo (Brazil), Laussane (Switzerland), Tirana (Albania), Ibiza (Spain), and almost of the rest Spain cities, but I felt something special in Brazil. There, the music culture is rapidly growing, just now, It´s one of the best countries to play, the vibe is awesome and the people loves music in every aspects! So at this moment, I choose Sao Paulo, I´m so excited to come back!
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: It´s so difficult to see, you know? Music industry is changing every minute, but I would like to think that I just will be playing all over the world, making the people dance with my music.
Q: Who would you say is your musical idol? Role Model?
A: I never had a musical idol, but I respect a lot djs like Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Carl Cox…. Really, the genuine djs were an inspiration to me.
Q: When will you next be playing in Marbella?
A: I hope so very soon! I´ve never been in Marbella before and I'm really excited to play there, maybe this summer it´s time to make some noise there ;)
Thanks for your time, keep up the good work, hard work pays off!
Thank you Sam!
See you in Marbella. I can't wait to work with you guys in the near future!
