Cocaine and Marijuana found in several raids across Spain
18-10-2010
Three members of the Catalan Police and a member of the Guardia Civil Drug Unit in Málaga are among those arrested.
Three members of the Mossos d’Esquadra, regional Catalan police, have been arrested for drug trafficking. Another 13 people have also been detained accused of drug trafficking and illicit association. Reporting restrictions have been placed on the case, but it is known that the arrests of the Mossos was made by their own companions in the force, and that three kilos of cocaine were recovered along with quantities of hashish and marihuana. 500,000 € cash was also found, along with jewellery and seven firearms.
The police have been provisionally suspended. The Guardia Civil in Alicante has arrested six people, four men and two women, after discovering a marihuana plantation described as the largest seen in Spain, with more than 9,000 plants. Two of the men arrested are Dutch, while the rest are Spanish.
The plantation was in a farming warehouse in Gorga, Alicante, and the Guardia Civil started their investigations in August after noting strange ‘comings and goings’. Investigations involving phone taps revealed the extent of the operation and how the Marihuana produced was either sold in Benidorm and surrounding areas or exported to The Netherlands. The operation, code-named ‘Errante’, also saw the search of two industrial warehouses in Benilloba.
Meanwhile in another case in Málaga, a member of the Málaga Civil Guard from the anti-drug unit, has also been arrested as part of an operation which remains open. Malaga Hoy reports the arrest took place last Monday on the Guadalmar beach in the city, when the agent was found with his own vans and a quantity of drugs.
In San Roque, Cádiz, the coastguard has found 1,710 kilos of hashish brought ashore on the La Alcaidesa Beach on an inflatable boat. The two men on the boat managed to make their escape however.
