The European Jazz Festival in Marbella
11-05-2010 Comments (8)When Pierre Bianchini, Director of Events & Concerto SL, first arrived in Marbella in March of 2009 he immediately saw a need for first class events here on the coast; besides we have it all here; perfect climate, location and a huge gap in the market for something new...
After many months of careful planning Events & Concerto SL, the promotor of the Festival presented their forthcoming line up of events for 2010 in a recent press conference. Top of the bill will be The First European Jazz Festival in July, whilst August will see the First International Country Music Festival, and December brings a touch of ´Magía` to Marbella with the Marbella European Festival of Magic.
The Town Councillor for Tourism, José Luis Hernández said that it was an “excellent idea” and showed that Marbella is still “rich soil to sow new seeds” whilst the local council will support the promotor “working elbow to elbow” and using their impressive network to insure success “Marbella needs strong companies to boost the image of Marbella...this musical event will give an added attraction to the city to tourists during the high season”.
The First European Jazz Festival will take place from 20th to 26th July 2010 within the grounds of the Golf Course of Magna Café and will feature well known artists from the jazz scene such as Diane Navarro, Helene Labarriere, Chico & the Gypsies as well as a Tribute to the Blues Brothers and the F. Sinatra Band amongst others. They estimate to receive 2.000 – 3.000 people per day and the tickets can be purchased from El Corte Inglés. Event: First European Jazz Festival When: 20.07.2010 – 26.07.2010 Where: Magna Café Marbella, Golf Course Featuring : Diana Navarro (20.07), Helene Labarriere (21.07), Helma Siwney (21.07), The Al Benson Band (22.07), Elis Eliane (23.07), Admal Jamal (24.07), Chico & The Gypsies (25.07), Tribute Blues Brothers (26.07), The F. If this is supposed to be a Jazz Festival, where's the jazz? Looks like the usual pop.

Too right Jezza. Victor actually did a Marbella Jazz Festival in 1974. Over the years he did his best to battle the ever turbulent bureaucracy of Marbella till in 2007 he organised the best line-up ever. George Benson, Al Jarreau, Jose Feliciano and Lionel Richie, amongst many others, only for the town hall to let him down at the last minute and ruin a fabulous event.

First Jazz Festival? Rubbish. Victor O Gilvie was doing Jazz festivals with the Town Hall in 2002 at the Palacio de Congresos. The then director of the venue that he could do a better job and sidelined Victor. The following year was a predicable shambles. And don't even get me started on what they did with the comedy festival....
