10 minutes with Jewellery Designer Eva Makara
04-07-2011 Comments (1)Every Friday, i-Marbella interviews one of Marbella's most interesting people and this week it is the gorgeous jewellery designer Eva Makara. She told us about her passion for jewellery design and a bit about her new collection.
Danish-Polish Eva Makara is a jewellery designer for the AmeSanti and Von Scheringen jewellery range.
1. How long have you been living here in Marbella?
I have been living in Marbella for more than 2 years now.
2. What inspired you to become a jewellery designer?
Since I can remember I was interested in art and also art history, different designs as well as jewellery design. I was always designing my own jewellery – it was my biggest hobby. But the real decision about trying to make a living out of it, was actually a bit of an accident.
My adventure with jewellery started when I was traveling in South America at a party in Punta del Este where I was talking to Eva Herzigova. She noticed my ring and asked who it was by. It came as a big surprise to her when I told her that designed the ring! Her comment to that was: “You should do it for a living." And so I did! A couple of months later I was on a plane to NYC to sell my first jewellery pieces.
3. How did you learn to do what you do?
Well simply by learning while doing it. I started with drawing some of the gold rings, then finding different stones and trying to match different colours together. Then I also started to produce string bracelets myself. I was trying to find the best method, so the bracelets would look good and I did. It's not very simple, but I do find that it's very relaxing and inspiring.
4. How long have you been designing jewellery?
For a more than 3 years.
5. What have been your greatest challenges as a designer?
Well the greatest challenge for me is to fulfill my clients wishes. And make the impossible become possible in terms of connecting different metals and stones and stones.
6. Who do you envision wearing your pieces?
I'm not a big fan of questions like that, as I believe that every single women deserves to wear what she fancies and finds suitable just for her. But if I have describe the kind of women who wear my jewellery it would be: casual, trendy, glamorously feminine, as well as sensible.
This is the spirit that I intuitively seek to install in my designs. I'm trying to create jewellery of style, image and beauty.
7. What 3 words would you use to describe your jewellery?
Trendy affordable luxury!
8. What is your favourite piece you have created and why?
It is a massive gold ring with polished rock crystal and small diamonds. It was my first gold ring with a large stone, the same that Eva Herzigova fell in love with and I'm very faithful to the ring :-)
9. What would you say were the positives and negatives of your job?
The best thing about being a designer is when you see the happiness and enthusiasm in the eyes of people/clients that are wearing your designs. The feeling you get is priceless and irreplaceable!
The negative sides? So far there aren't any!
10. What do you have coming up right now that you’re excited about?
Well I'm working on a new collection of bracelets that will be devoted to feelings.
I already designed a Love Bracelet as I believe in the power of stones and colours, so the new collection will be the continuation of the Love Bracelet: Passion Bracelet, Hope Braclet and Friendship Bracelet.
11. Will you extend your brand to other accessories?
I'm actualy in a process of developing a piece of jewellery that have a “double use”, but it's still a secret ...
12. Finally, what is your price range and where can we see your designs?
The fashion jewellery(bracelets and necklaces) is priced from 40 euros to 95 euros.
My fashion jewellery is available in:
Luz Jewels first line in Puerto Banus
Motek in Puerto Banus
