International Festival of Music and Dance, Nerja Caves from July 17 to 22 in 2012

This year in July takes place the 53rd edition of the Festival de la Cueva de Nerja to be held from July 17 to 22. With over half a century behind it, this festival held in the underground chambers of the Caves of Nerja, it is still a great attraction in the summer of Malaga, both for its unique location and its excellent guest artists.

This year the program welcomes singer Pasion Vega (July 21), the soloists of the Orchestra of Salzburg (July 17), Flamenco dancing with Antonio El Pipa and Lola Greco (July 18), the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla (19 July) and the gala of the Russian Ballet (July 20). As a novelty this year, the Caves of Nerja in this edition also include theatre, with the Catalan company Els Comediants, on July 22. All performances begin at 10 pm.

Another novelty is that the tickets don´t have any longer a single price of 50 Euros, but are now available from 25, 30 and 40 Euros, depending on the area; these entries so far could only be purchased at the box office of the Caves of Nerja, which implied a certain degree of inconvenience, now can also be purchased over the Internet, at the webpage www.cuevadenerja.es, in the cave itself and in the Museum of the History of Nerja, located in the Plaza de España 4.

The Nerja caves, which are also known as the Natural Cathedral by the size of its chambers, are located in the village of Maro a few miles from Nerja some 200 meters above sea level. The cavity open to the public has an area of about 140,000 square meters, with a maximum length of 700 meters. During the summer months, visiting hours are from 10 am until 7:30 pm. During the days of the International Festival of Music and Dance of the Cueva de Nerja (July), visiting hours are from 10 am to 6 pm.
